Blade Runner 2049 Stars Discuss Importance of Emotions to the Storyline

Sometimes, movies that were a big hit from way back should never be touched—especially those that didn't have an immediate sequel. This doesn't seem to be the case for Blade Runner 2049, which is a sequel that comes in 35 years after the original movie was released.

After wowing fans with the latest trailer, Blade Runner 2049 stars Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling and director Dennis Villeneuve took to discussing the core of the story (via CBM), which revolves around the emotions that mark the interactions.

"It was a scene about history that transpired between the last time you saw the character and how you see him now, and they reference between the two characters, and it was unexpectedly deep, emotionally deep, and really rich."

This was referring to the first time that he two characters meet in the trailer. And it referred to the time of Ford's character in the original movie. From the looks of it, director Villeneuve is looking to go back to the themes that had previously propelled the original material, perhaps with even more fuel this time around.

I can't emphasize the importance of going deeper into character exploration in any movie. With sci-fi thrillers, it can be easily overlooked in lieu of interesting worlds and twists, but Blade Runner 2049 seems bent on going deeper into character rather than further off into what sci-fi's futuristic wonders and effects can bring. And that, I think is something that would make this an enjoyable ride.

Blade Runner 2049 will be out in theaters on Oct. 6.

Synopsis:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
