Blade Runner 2049 Director Denis Villeneuve in Talks to Helm Cleopatra

Denis Villeneuve, the director of Blade Runner 2049, is in talks to direct a biopic of Cleopatra, Variety reports.

The film will based on Stacy Schiff's book about a great Egyptian ruler who created her own dynasty before her eventual downfall due to her relationship with Roman soldier Marc Anthony.

The project has been gestating with Sony for quite some time, with filmmakers like James Cameron and Paul Greengrass involved at one point. Angelina Jolie was said to be part of the project but there's no confirmation if she will star in the film.

The director behind Sicario and Arrival is attached to direct a reboot of Dune for Legendary. While directing Dune, he would develop Cleopatra.

Villeneuve was nominated for Best Director at this year's Academy Awards for his work on last year's sci-fi Arrival.

Blade Runner 2049 will be released in theaters on October 6, 2017.
