Black Panther Comic Writer Shows Interest In Writing Batgirl Movie

With Joss Whedon leaving the Batgirl film, the door is now wide-open for someone new to work on the DC superhero film. The Justice League director claims that he wasn't able to write a story that would be worthwhile. Notable names have offered to work on the film but what ended up being surprising was that someone from Warner Bros. actually responded to one particular writer.

Roxane Gay, who worked on Black Panther: World of Wakanda, offered to work on the film via Twitter. Not long after Michele Wells, the Vice President of DC and Warner Bros., told Gay to contact her about the project if she was serious. It's rare to see someone in such a high position respond like this, let alone in social media, so this is definitely noteworthy.

Does this mean Gay is officially in the running as a Batgirl writer? Not necessarily. Until DC and Warner Bros. actually makes an announcement, we'll just have to hope that Gay's pitch is a good one.

Aside from Black Panther: World of Wakanda, Gay worked on a novel called An Untamed State and a collection of essays called Bad Feminist.

Batgirl currently has no release date.
