Birds of Prey: Batgirl won't Appear, but Barbara Gordon Might

When it was announced that the DCEU was working on an all-woman team-up, the immediate assumption as that Batgirl will be part of Birds of Prey. Bad news is, she won't be; but that doesn't mean Barbara Gordon won't be showing up.

This was announced by The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez:

Well, that is quite easy to answer because BATGIRL is NOT in #BIRDSOFPREY

When it was pointed out that Variety said that Batgirl would be in the movie, Gonzalez then answered with:

They didn't say that on the record, rather Justin tweeted. Profound difference. Was decided recently no Batgirl. Attention to detail, I didn't say Barbara Gordon, I said Batgirl.

Some guess with Barbara Gordon's appearance, she will be playing Oracle for Birds of Prey. Then again, with Oracle appearing in this film, it kind of makes us think that the Batgirl movie will be a prequel, seeing that Barbara needs the use of her legs to fight crime alongside Batman.

To those who don't know, Oracle is the persona that Batgirl took up after she was rendered paralyzed from the waist down thanks to the Joker. She doesn't fight crime in tights, but she does help Batman by being a computer whiz and genius hacker.

For now, Birds of Prey is aiming to start production January of 2019. It has been confirmed that the film will have an R-rating and will have a smaller budget compared to other DCEU films. So far, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) is the only confirmed character for the roster.

No release date has been set for Birds of Prey.
