Big Hero 6 TV Series is Coming to Disney XD

Walt Disney Animation Studios has announced that they will continue telling the story of Hiro and Baymax in the small screen with a Big Hero 6 TV Series on Disney XD. The animated film is now in production and is set to premiere in 2017.

Big Hero 6 achieved massive critical and commercial success when it was released in 2014. The next year, it received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film as well as the Blimp Award for Favorite Animated Movie. It comes as no surprise now that the studios decided to take on this project. Nevertheless, it's a welcome surprise.

In a statement, Disney Channels Worldwide President and Chief Creative Officer, Gary Marsh, announced:

Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series – full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob – andBaymax – can deliver.

The Big Hero 6 TV series will be executive produced by Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley (both showrunners of Kim Possible). Its story will follow the events after the film, continuing the adventures of Hiro and the adorable robot Baymax. Expect to see the band of young superheroes from the film as well, which includes Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred, and GoGo Tomago. Hiro will be continuing his studies at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology as a scientific prodigy while he and his friends protect San Fransokyo City from the bad guys.

I loved watching Big Hero 6. It contains that charm, curiosity, and colorful adventure that many have come to know of Disney. I thought the movie was original and inspiring that I kind of expected Disney to make a sequel.

Still, I'm very excited to see the series. I think it's even better! It's more screen time for Baymax at least. Hopefully, they'll make this series a success.
