Disney's remake of The Lion King is filling out its cast list and it looks like the studio is hoping to add musical megastar Beyonce to its star-studded roster.
The Lion King remake has been busy reeling in its various voce actors this month, and not only has the film managed to nab Captain America: Civil War stars Alfre Woodward and John Kani for the roles of the lioness Sarabi and the sage monkey Rafiki, it's also begun negotiations with Doctor Strange's Chiwetel Ejiofor to play the part of Scar in Jon Favreu's film.
Now, according to a new report by The Tracking Board, it seems like the studio has started serious negotiations with Beyonce to join the team as the voice behind Nala, Simba's love interest in the original 1994 animated movie.
The pop star and the studio are close to sealing the deal; however the casting has not been made official as of yet because of the soundtrack negotiations. Here's how the site described the talks between Disney and Beyonce:
"There's still no word on the voice of Nala, though Beyoncé is believed to be nearing a huge deal to voice the latter character and serve as the Elton John of the new film by producing the soundtrack, which is expected to feature new songs from the Grammy-winning singer as well as old favorites from the original Lion King. That's why Disney may be saving the Nala announcement for last, because the soundtrack has complicated negotiations and it's nearly as important as the film itself."
Having new songs mixed in with the original songs featured in the 1994 The Lion King, Favreau's remake would definitely benefit with the addition of Beyonce. Not only would the megastar's participation help boost the film's appeal, it would also enrich the musical dimension of the movie.
The Lion King remake is slated for release sometime in July 2019.
