Ben Affleck’s Original Script For The Batman Was Inspired By David Fincher’s The Game

Before Matt Reeves took over the solo Batman movie, Ben Affleck himself was hired to direct and star in the film. Though the script Reeves will be using for the film will be totally different, we now have some clues on what Affleck's original version of The Batman was going to be like.

According to The Wrap's Umberto Gonzales, the original script was inspired by David Fincher's The Game before Reeves took over.

If we're going to take that as inspiration, I would guess that the main villain for the film would have been the Riddler, and he would be hiring several other Batman villains, leading to a grueling chase around Gotham City for the Caped Crusader.

I'm also thinking this could work in an Arkham Asylum setting where Batfleck has to find his way out, and the Riddler (or even the Joker) has rigged everything to be a dangerous "game." I can totally see it working.

For now, we have no idea what Matt Reeves has in store for The Batman, but he has mentioned that he wants to do a noir film that will take audiences to a "day-in-the-life" of the Dark Knight. A bit bold, I would say, but definitely something I would like to watch. I think a lot of audience members are getting tired of the "end of the world" big-budget CGI climax scenario.

No official release date has been set for The Batman.
