World War Z Sequel to Start Shooting Summer of 2019

The World War Z film was nothing like the book, but the movie made enough money that a sequel is currently in the works. It's been a long time before we got any updates on the movie, but news has come out that production for the sequel already has a set start date.

Talking to Variety, producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner confirm that the World War Z sequel will start shooting June 2019. It's been a year since the movie was announced with David Fincher set to direct, but so far, we haven't gotten any updates that are as solid as this one.

The movie was thought to start production sometime this year, but Fincher instead decided to work on his Netflix series Mindhunter. The main star of the first movie, Brad Pitt, was also set to return, but he decided to work with Quentin Tarantino on his upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The original World War Z book was written by Max Brooks, and when the movie came out, a lot were disappointed that the movie didn't resemble anything in the source material at all. You see, the original book was meant to be a fictional ‘historical account' of people who survived the Zombie war, with the author supposedly going around the world collecting stories from different survivors detailing their experiences.

With the movie, we pretty much just followed the story of Gerry Lane (Pitt) as he tries to survive the zombie outbreak. He escapes with his family, a vaccine is developed, and hope is restored. Nothing at all like the book.

With Fincher onboard, I'm hoping that he embraces the more realistic approach of the book, seeing as that's why it was such a hit in the first place. I'm crossing my fingers that they do a mockumentary format complete with talking heads and found footage.

That's just my opinion anyway.

No release date has been set for the World War Z sequel.
