Wonder Woman 3 on Hold Until Patty Jenkins Sees the Result of the Pandemic

Patty Jenkins had struck gold with the first Wonder Woman film, and she had returned at the helm for the sequel. What's interesting is, she had plans for the third movie, but she's decided to put it all on hold to see the results of the pandemic first.

Talking to Total Film (via Games Radar), Jenkins explains that Wonder Woman 3 has ‘hit the pause button' for now. Jenkins explains, "The truth is, where that plotline was coming from was our state of being six months ago. And so I want to make sure that I'm totally absorbing whatever the result of this pandemic is."

We don't know specifically what issue Jenkins is referring to six months ago, but headlines were already going around for the Coronavirus back then. Perhaps it would have something to do with WW3 or the forest fires? It's honestly been a crazy year.

If anything, I would really love for the next Wonder Woman movie to take place in the current timeline. For some reason, these solo women movies have always been period pieces, even Captain Marvel and Black Widow. I wonder what's wrong with having a woman-centric story told in the present timeline?

For now, everyone is still waiting for Wonder Woman 1984 which would have been out today had it not been for COVID-19. Hopefully we get no more hiccups moving forward and recovery becomes a steady road ahead.

Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters Aug. 14.
