Will Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Finally Show Us the Jedi Temple Massacre?

The massacre of Luke's Jedi Temple has been something teased in the sequel trilogy since The Force Awakens, and two movies in, we know what happened, but we haven't really seen how the scene played out. What's interesting is, we could finally see how it all went down in The Rise of Skywalker.

Check out this photo of Luke from Vanity Fair:

As you can see, Luke is standing around a fiery background with R2 on his side, dressed in the exact same outfit as we've seen him whenever we flashback to that scene of the massacre. With Luke having died in the last movie, the only explanation we would have is that this comes from a scene in the past. Then again, with new Force powers introduced in the last film, who knows if they want to give us something new with TROS?

Maybe Rey can discover some kind of Three-Eyed-Raven trick and use the Force to revisit events from the past? Maybe she could even try and stop the massacre, or show herself to Kylo from that time, that's why they develop a connection.

As of now, everyone is waiting on a full trailer for TROS this coming July with SDCC 2019. With Avengers: Endgame finally out of the way, Disney can put all the focus on the release of Star Wars IX.

Catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters Dec. 20.
