Watchmen: People Can't Stop Comparing Dr. Manhattan to Handsome Squidward

The last episode of Watchmen has finally given us Dr. Manhattan's face, and he's basically just Yahya-Abdul Mateen II painted blue. What's funny is, people are comparing him to another pop-culture figure—Handsome Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants.

Probably the most glaring comparison is that of Manhattan's head which looks to be sporting a bald cap, making it look larger. If anything, Manhattan looks passable when he's glowing, but to save budget on the CGI, the show needed him to flit in and out of his glowing state.

If you look at Manhattan from the side though, I guess he looks a bit better. It's really the front and back angles where you can see that his head is a bit enlarged.

Though I think the body of Manhattan in the Watchmen film is a tad exaggerated, I always liked how Billy Crudup's version looked. Then again, that was coming from a movie budget, so you can always expect the VFX to be better. When you look at the movie Manhattan, his skin has more textures and lines, compared to Manhattan in the show which looks kind of like a walking Andy Warhol painting.

Love the look or not, a lot of people still loved the latest episode. It really gave us a good sense of Manhattan's character, and even flitted around the timeline, just like how Manhattan experiences time. I guess it works best in this TV format compared to the sequence we got in the Snyder movie.

Catch the finale of Watchmen when it comes out this Sunday on HBO.
