Watch Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World Short Film Battle at Big Rock

Colin Trevorrow may have been fired from directing Star Wars Episode IX, but he's back at the helm for Jurassic World 3. To help hype up the film, Trevorrow has released a new short film called Battle at Big Rock which gives us a look at the aftermath of the Fallen Kingdom from a civilian point of view.

The short takes place one year after the events of the last Jurassic World film in Big Rock National Park, where dinosaurs are now living in our world. The story follows a family of four whose encounter with these wild animals becomes a terrifying fight for survival.

If you recall, Fallen Kingdom ended with the dinosaurs getting released to the world and this short kind of gives us a look at the day to day of some people. By the sound of it, the world seems to be at disarray, and everyone is finding out ways to survive the dino apocalypse. One man at the camp says he's "surviving," and the family seems to have come to Big Rock so they can camp out on the high ground to avoid the dinos. The dialogue between them also seems to imply that they are a group of survivors who have found each other.

There're also some extra clips during the credits which give us a look at some "found-footage" of dinosaurs around the world. I thought the clip of the young girl running from the tiny compsognathus was also a nod to the opening scene of The Lost World. Heck, this entire short could have been the opening for Jurassic World 3.

While the Fallen Kingdom was critically panned, I still thought that the story went an interesting direction by releasing the dinosaurs from the park. Now the third film is open to forging a whole new narrative, and I'm interested to see how the world is going to cope now that dinosaurs literally walk it.

Jurassic World 3 comes out on June 11, 2021.
