Sam Gamgee Actor Sean Astin Announces Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies 4K UHD Release

It's been 17 years since the release of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and 6 years since the end of The Hobbit. Now WB is gearing up for the release of both trilogies in 4K UHD, and who else would they have do the announcement but none other than Samwise Gamgee.

Watch this:

What's cool is, Sean Astin even brought Sam's sword from the film. It's no Sting, but it's pretty great that he has his own prop from the film. Granted, maybe WB would have had a more grandiose announcement for the UHD release, but seeing as we're in the midst of a pandemic, it would make sense that Astin would just shoot the announcement from his home.

Though we're going to get the 4K UHD versions of both LOTR and The Hobbit this December, WB is also gearing up for some more special releases in 2021 and 2023. They've announced a 4K ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S EDITION for the summer of 2021, and another release on the 20th Anniversary of LOTR. We don't know what those releases will include, but I'm expecting more behind-the-scenes extras and maybe some special props or collectibles.

This is all in great timing as Amazon's The Lord of the Rings series is currently in the works. While it hasn't been confirmed, a lot of people are hoping that it keeps to the continuity of the Peter Jackson films. I mean, they weren't exactly like the books, but they were the best adaptations fans could hope for.

The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies will be available on 4K UHD on Dec. 1.
