Just in case you don't know your movie trivia, Will Smith was the original choice for Neo in The Matrix movie. Smith eventually dropped out and was replaced by Reeves, but it looks like we may get a chance to have ‘Black Neo' soon.

As per Discussing Film, Michael B. Jordan is set to star in the next Matrix movie and it will be directed once again by the Wachowskis. Production is set to begin in Chicago sometime early 2020, and they'll be working on a script that comes from Zak Penn (Avengers, X-Men 2). The movie is also under the working title Project Ice Cream.

With the Wachowskis bringing flop after flop at the box office recently (Jupiter Ascending, Cloud Atlas), it's interesting that they should come back to the franchise that made them a household name in the first place. I guess they got a lot of success with Sense8 with Netflix, but they never really got that same hype that came with The Matrix.

We still have no idea if this is going to be a reboot, but with the world having so much places to explore, I can imagine they can keep to the original continuity. Maybe it can be a prequel, but there's also a chance that it would be a reboot/sequel—just to give a chance for Keanu Reeves to come back maybe. He's in everything these days.

No release date has been set for the next Matrix movie, but hopefully we get an update before 2019 ends.
