Todd McFarlane On His Problem with Spider-Man 3's Venom

Though Venom was critically panned when it came out, a lot of people still agree that the characterization of Venom in the movie was way better than the one we got in Spider-Man 3. Venom co-creator Todd McFarlane opens up about his issues with the film, and explains why he thinks this new version is loads better.

Talking to Collider, McFarlane was asked whether he liked the portrayal of Venom in Spider-Man 3 to which explained with a simple "No." His problem is basically that the Venom in that film was too small.

Going to his designs of the character, McFarlane explained that he intentionally envisioned Venom to be larger than Spider-Man, and by design he was an enemy that Spider-Man couldn't beat physically. When it came to the Raimi version, they chose to make him almost the same size as Spider-Man. With this new Venom though, Macfarlane explained how happy we was that they decided to make Venom a lot more massive—just like in the comic.

You can watch his passionate rant here:

Though I thought the Venom film was a step back for superhero films, I do have to admit that they got the characterization of Venom right. The story was really off, but I enjoyed watching the back and forth between Eddie Brock and the symbiote. If you watch it again, the romance isn't between Brock and Anne Weying, but rather Brock and the symbiote.

Venom is already available in digital, and will hits Blu-Ray and DVD on Dec. 18.
