Thor Love and Thunder: Tessa Thompson Teases that Valkyrie is Gay

Avengers: Endgame ended with Thor handing over the reins of New Asgard to Valkyrie, and it looks like she'll be back for the next film, Thor: Love and Thunder. With the movie giving us a female Thor, Thompson herself teased in SDCC 2019 that her character could be gay.

This was what she said:

"As new king [of Asgard], [Valkyrie] needs to find her queen, so that would be…"

Thompson herself is a member of the LGBTQ and has come out as bisexual, so I guess it would make sense for her to be playing the first gay superhero in the MCU. I just don't expect her to end up with Natalie Portman's Thor; that would be like an ending straight out of Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

Personally, I always thought that Jane Foster was one of the most boring characters for the Thor franchise, but with her taking center stage, I think this would be a great opportunity for Marvel to flesh out her character even more. Surely after Thor: The Dark World, she's grown a bit as a person after all these years. Maybe she can be bisecual this time, but I'd prefer they make another change in her character other than her sexual orientation.

Though I am fine if they make the character bisexual to make a Valkyrie romance work, I'm kind of hoping that they keep Jane straight. I think it would be kind of a weird message that she would be gay after gaining all these hyper-masculine powers. I think Wonder Woman was able to show that women characters can be strong and tough, yet still keep their femininity.

That's just my opinion anyway. I'm completely fine either way.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for a release on Nov. 5, 2021.
