There is an 'Ongoing Debate' About Thor's Weight in Love and Thunder

Avengers: Endgame had pulled the rug from under the fans when they gave Thor some dramatic weight gain, and while some people thought it was a pretty realistic depiction of depression (which Thor was undergoing), some people didn't much love "Bro Thor". We don't know if the God of Thunder will eventually lose the weight, and apparently even the guys at Marvel Studios are trying to figure it out.

Talking to Yahoo! Entertainment, director Taika Waititi has confirmed that he's finished with the first draft of Thor: Love and Thunder, but they are still wondering how Thor will look in the film. Waititi says, "This is an ongoing debate that we're still having at Marvel… Cause we're trying to figure out how long — how many months or years — this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?"

Apparently Waititi likes it when Thor is "changing all the time." First Thor had his hair cut in Ragnarok, then had some dramatic weight gain in Endgame. It's curious how Waititi plans to change him some more when it comes to Love and Thunder, but it's likely we could finally be getting a female version of Thor in Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. I wonder what's in store for the ‘original' Thor though.

While Captain America and Iron Man have definitely signed off on the MCU, I would love to see Chris Hemsworth in a recurring role. Maybe he can finally play the Odin part in the MCU, and we could have Hemsworth return from time to time. The older Thor has a story in the comics, and I think it's better to just go in this direction than to just kill him off again.

Catch Thor: Love and Thunder when it hits theaters Nov. 5, 2021. Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit hits theaters Oct. 18.
