A lot of people are excited to see Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher series, and though the show is set to debut this December, it’s been announced that a second season has already been renewed.

Check out the official announcement:

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich actually had more to say about the renewal. This is her post:

If anything, this is a sign that Netflix is completely confident with the show, and even if it hasn’t premiered yet, it kind of has a guaranteed audience already, thanks to the status of the novels and the popularity of the game from CD Projekt Red.

While I personally would prefer if studios wait for audience reactions before they renew shows, I think this is a way for the production to make a second season in time for next year. Stranger Things has been a huge hit with fans, but I think the renewal for latter seasons is what lead to us having to wait an extra year for the third season. Hopefully, this renewal of The Witcher means we’ll have a second season in time for December 2020.

I guess the only downside is that it will eat up on Cavill’s schedule should WB decide to finally work on another Superman movie. I know a lot of people believe that he’s done playing the part, but I think it’s just a case of WB not knowing what to do with the character yet. Besides there’s all this new buzz about the Snyder Cut coming out so maybe that’s going to lead to something. I’m just guessing.

Catch The Witcher when it premieres on Netflix Dec. 20.
