The Witcher: Michael Keaton and Mads Mikkelsen Were Offered the Part of Vesimir

Though he gets mentioned in the first season of The Witcher, Vesimir is yet to make an appearance on the show. A lot are hoping that he comes back for the second season, and while Mark Hamill had been fancast by the internet, other actors have been courted for the part that have turned it down.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, these were some high-profile guys as well. He says that Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Hannibal) and Michael Keaton (Birdman, Spider-Man: Homecoming ) were both offered the part; only both of them declined. Here's the post:

While we don't know who is playing Vesimir yet, at least we have a clue that the show is definitely looking to introduce him at some point. Coming back to the casting of Hamill, I think he would do a great job, considering that Vesimir is said to be the lead in the animated spinoff The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. What better way for Hamill to debut in the universe if not as a voice actor?

While we know he can play Luke Skywalker, Hamill had a recent appearance on Knightfall as Talus. Let's hope he has some time in his sched to star in something like The Witcher.

For now, production has just recently started for the show. We don't know who is playing Vesimir yet, but we do know that Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju has been cast for the part of Nivellen, a character in the franchise's take on Beaty and the Beast.

Geralt of Rivia is a witcher, a mutant with special powers who kills monsters for money. The land is in a state of turmoil, due to the empire of Nilfgaard seeking to enlarge its territory. Among the refugees of this struggle is Cirilla, the Princess of Cintra, one of Nilfgaard's victims. She and Geralt share a destiny. Meanwhile, another figure looms large in Geralt's adventures: Yennefer, a sorceress.

No release date has been set for Season 2, but you can catch the first season of The Witcher now on Netflix.
