The Suicide Squad: James Gunn Debunks Rumors of Zatanna's Involvement

Besides Batman and Superman, the DCEU has been slowly giving us some more obscure characters onscreen like Shazam and Harley Quinn. There have been rumors going around that magic-user Zatanna was going to appear in The Suicide Squad, and director James Gunn has come online to put the rumors to rest.

Here's his post on Twitter:

Besides The Suicide Squad, a lot of people were also hoping that Zatanna would be a member of Birds of Prey, but the film decided not to include her as well. There is still some buzz going around that DC is planning a Gotham City Sirens film, and if that pushes forward, then maybe that's the film where Zatanna will get to make her debut.

Personally, with Zatanna, I think it would be fun to introduce her to a Shazam! film, seeing that they both deal with magic. Since Billy is still a young kid, it would be fun to see him try to keep his cool around another grown superhero. I was also kind of hoping that she would appear in Wonder Woman 1984, but it looks like that isn't going to happen either.

For now, Harley Quinn remains to be the most popular character in The Suicide Squad. With Gunn being able to make the Guardians of the Galaxy a household name though, I'm sure he'll be able to make the audience love the likes of Polka-Dot Man and King Shark as well.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it hits theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
