Ant-Man's David Dastmalchian Prepares for His Polka-Dot Man Role in The Suicide Squad

We've known for a while that Polka-Dot Man will be appearing in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and newly dropped yesterday that Ant-Man and The Dark Knight actor David Dastmalchian will be playing the role. While no details have been officially announced about the character, Dastmalchian has started to tease his prep for the Polka-Dot Man.

Gunn himself has teased that his Suicide Squad will be based on the John Ostrander run for the comics, so it would make sense that Dastmalchian would know where to get started. Then again, Polka-Dot Man is one of the more obscure villains in the comics, so I would expect Gunn to have a completely original twist on the character.

In the comics, the Polka-Dot Man was a guy in a polka-dot covered suit, and his special thing was that each polka-dot was a different kind of weapon. I can easily see him being rewritten as some kind of tech genius who has a special suit covered in circular gadgets, but I'd be amazed if Gunn could come up with something less predictable. Maybe he's just a nut in a suit and he has intel that's necessary to the Squad? I'm just spit-balling here.

For now, The Suicide Squad is aiming to start production later this year and will star Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and David Dastmalchian. No word yet on who's playing characters King Shark, Peacemaker, and Ratcatcher.

Catch The Suicide Squad when it comes out Aug. 5, 2021.
