Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker kind of came out a critical bomb, and a lot of people are already asking "What happened?" behind the scenes. What's interesting is, a leak has now come out on Reddit detailing how Disney managed to screw over J.J. Abrams with this movie, and this has now prompted a #ReleaseTheJJCut movement online.
As per the leak coming from u/egoshoppe on Reddit, a source close to the film has said that the movie we got was far from what Abrams was making during production. While some are blaming Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy for the increased fanservice, it apparently was Bob Iger who wanted Abrams back and it was Disney demanding more fanservice and less controversy.
The post goes on to detail the apparent nightmare that Abrams had to undergo as his creative control for the film was getting smaller and smaller. His original cut for the film was said to last for more than 3 hours, and it was said to include the more ‘quiet' moments that a lot of people thought the movie desperately needed.

Seeing that Abrams has made some fantastic films beforehand, it was kind of mind-boggling how bad The Rise of Skywalker ended up as. This leak kind of puts everything in perspective—if all of it is true that is. We have no idea of knowing what's what officially, but for sure this is going to be another #ReleaseTheSnyderCut situation. I guarantee it.
