The Punisher’s Ben Barnes Would Like to Try His Own Take on Batman

Ben Affleck has already put down the cowl of the Caped Crusader, and Matt Reeves is currently looking for someone younger to play the new Batman of the DCEU. The Punisher's Ben Barnes looks like he could take on the role, and he talks about bringing his own spin to the character if he ever got the chance.

Talking to Heroic Hollywood, the topic went on to Barnes possibly taking on Batman, and he explained:

"I was just saying earlier to one of the journalists. I came across recently this picture of me when and I'm about 4 years old. And I have a little bit of string around my neck with a yellow piece of paper and a black bat drawn on the bit of paper. It is the saddest little Batman costume you've ever seen. I think that would be up there for me in something to try and find a new way to do. I think the way Christian Bale did it where he completely reinvented it which is a little bit what I was trying to do with Jigsaw in season 2. We never refer to him as Jigsaw necessarily so it didn't feel quite honest to do exactly what they did in the Warzone comics and stuff but to find a new way around things is an interesting thing. With TV and movies these days you have find a way to make it new, fresh and interesting. So, yeah that would be pretty cool thought."

It was said that the movie was looking for a younger actor who was already pretty well known, so I think Barnes would actually be a good choice to take on the character. Then again, there are a lot of other great choices out there. One fan favorite is Armie Hammer, who co-starred with Henry Cavill in The Man from UNCLE. He had already denied rumors of being approached for the role, but there are some sources that say that Hammer is a top contender for the part.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Other people rumored for the shortlist are Robert Pattinson and Kit Harrington. Hopefully Reeves' finds someone who could properly embody the young Bruce Wayne of the DCEU. I wouldn't be opposed to having Jeremy Irons return as Alfred.

The Batman comes out on June 25, 2021.
