The Little Mermaid Live-Action: Lady Gaga Could Be Playing the Role of Ursula

We had recently gotten news that Disney is planning to adapt The Little Mermaid to live-action and it was said that they wanted to have Zendaya play Ariel. Now rumor has come out that they've found their top choice to play the sea witch Ursula.

As per the DisInsider, Disney is interested in having Lady Gaga take over the role of The Little Mermaid's main antagonist. Of course, nothing has been confirmed as of now, so we should take this with a grain of salt, but Gaga seems to be perfect for the role of Ursula. Besides her vocal range, Gaga may also prove to be a box office draw after the success of her work in A Star is Born.

For now, we don't have that much official news on Mermaid yet. Zendaya has been heavily rumored to be considered for the lead, but nothing official has been announced on Disney's part. What we do know is that Into the Woods and Mary Poppins returns director Rob Marshall will be at the helm of the project.

As of now, Disney's live-action slate has films like Aladdin, The Lion King, and Mulan in the works. The Lady and the Tramp is also getting a live-action adaptation, but in lieu of a theatrical release, it's going to premiere on the upcoming streaming service.

No doubt Disney will want to go big with something as iconic as The Little Mermaid.

No release date has been announced for the live-action Little Mermaid adaptation.
