After years since the announcement, Netflix’s Dark Crystal prequel is finally coming out this year. Just in, we have our first trailer for the series and it looks amazing.

The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

The amazing thing about the series is, it will make use of traditional practical effects for the most part. All the Gelflings and creatures you see in the trailer are actual puppets. Of course, there’s still some CGI in some shots, but they’re done to enhance the believability of the practical effects.

For the lead three Gelflings, they will be voiced by Taron Egerton (Kingsman), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), and Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass). The series also boasts a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Natalie Dormer, Mark Hamill, Helena Bonham-Carter, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Simon Pegg, and many many more.

It’s been a long wait since the announcement, but I’m sure a lot of Dark Crystal fans will think it was worth it when the series finally airs.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set to debut on Netflix on Aug. 30.
