The Game of Thrones Spinoff has Started Shooting in a Familiar Location

The ending of Game of Thrones will probably go down as one of the most disappointing finales in TV history, but HBO is already hard at work with a spinoff series returning us to Westeros. As it turns out, things are getting into gear faster than we expected.

According to The Belfast Telegraph, shooting for the prequel has already begun at Northern Ireland. The site reports that several shooting locations have been set up across the province, and we could be returning to the same places where they shot the Red Wedding and the Battle of the Bastards.

So far, we know that the series takes place a thousand years before the events of Game of Thrones, and it will follow Westeros' "descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour."

We know that Naomi Watts (King Kong) is going to star in the series, and her character has been described as "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret." Harry Potter fans may also recognize Rita Skeeter actress Miranda Richardson and John Simm (Doctor Who, Life on Mars). Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Naomi Ackie has also been cast.

Until we get a trailer for the show, we can't really expect anyone to get hyped. With the series already in production, hopefully, we get some kind of teaser before the year ends. Maybe we can even get something at the San Diego Comic-Con this coming July.

No release date has been set for HBO's Game of Thrones prequel.
