The Batman had only started shooting for a few days, but it was suddenly shut down because star Robert Pattinson had tested positive for COVID-19. Production had spent weeks isolating and testing everyone, and now it looks like everything is ready to get back rolling.
According to Variety, Robert Pattinson has now been cleared to resume work for The Batman. A spokesperson for WB has confirmed, "Following a hiatus for COVID 19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on ‘The Batman' in the U.K." WB didn't reveal who else got COVID, but I guess what's important is that they're taking more precautions so that this doesn't happen again.
If anything, The Batman has provided a cautionary tale for other productions that dare to resume while COVID is still around. We've gotten word of productions like Jurassic World Dominion getting halted because of COVID-19, and we'll likely see more of it moving forward. While it would be the best to just wait for the virus to be gone, the studios are losing a lot of money with these delays, what with scheduling locations and paying the cast and crew.
Hopefully The Batman won't be getting any more hiccups in the future. I mean, it's undergoing production around the time of COVID but I guess things can be worse. Hopefully director Matt Reeves can still deliver a fantastic movie, even with all these precautions and delays.
The Batman is set to hit theaters on Oct.1, 2021.
