When news came out that Jonah Hill was in talks to play a villain in The Batman, a lot of people thought they were talking about either Riddler or Penguin. With those talks not pushing through though, the movie has found someone to play Edward Nygma.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has cast Paul Dano (Looper, Little Miss Sunshine) for the part of the Riddler. We don't have many details on the actual role, but Dano must have been already considered for the part, seeing that the news about Hill dropping out just came out yesterday.

Dano will be joining a cast which includes Robert Pattinson (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman, Selina Kyle), and Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon).

I have to say, Dano is actually a pretty great choice for the part. While he usually plays a good guy, he can play very complex, creepy characters, which I think is essential for a modern iteration of the Riddler. Though he can be kind of an attention-seeking child in past iterations, he's very close to being someone like Jigsaw with the right treatment.

Then again, I'm just speculating here. We have no idea what Matt Reeves has in store for the character. Hopefully, it's something less silly than Jim Carrey's take back in the 90s, but I wouldn't want something too predictable either.

Catch The Batman when it hits theaters June 25, 2021.
