The Batman: Fantastic Beasts’ Eddie Redmayne Would Love to Play the Riddler

Matt Reeves' The Batman is finally moving forward, but besides Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, there hasn't been any other official casting news. Rumor has it that the Riddler is being planned as one of the main villains in the cast, and a certain Wizarding World star wants in.

Talking to IMDb, Eddie Redmayne as asked which cinematic villain he would like to play, and he just simply says, "I'd love to play the Riddler. Just putting that out there."

While no other official cast members have been announced, the movie is said to be looking at Pattinson's Tenet co-star John David Washington to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face; plus Jamie Foxx and Giancarlo Esposito are also said to be in the run for unspecified roles. Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya) is also said to be a choice for the film, and some think it's for the Penguin role. So far, no one but Pattinson has been officially announced.

I think that Redmayne could actually pull off a good Riddler, but it really depends on how the movie decides to approach him. I don't really think the Riddler demands someone of a certain age, so maybe Redmayne could very much pull it off. I like the idea of him being a really young, troubled genius who just has extreme narcissism and becomes the Riddler, but hopefully Matt Reeves has something better in mind than what just came off the top of my head.

Catch The Batman when it hits theaters June 25, 2021.
