Stranger Things 2 Needed Permission From Ivan Reitman To Have The Kids Wear Ghostbusters Costumes

With Stranger Things being an ode to all things 80s, it was inevitable that Ivan Reitman's Ghostbusters was going to get a reference. As it turns out, the Duffer Brothers had to get special permission to have the characters dressed as Ghostbusters for Halloween, and Reitman couldn't be anything less than flattered.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the Duffer Brothers explained:

"We got to talk to Ivan Reitman on the phone because he and Dan Aykroyd had to approve it."

As it turns out, Reitman was very happy to be part of the show and even sent toys to the cast when the second season wrapped.

"[Reitman] said it was flattering. He read the scripts. He had seen the first season or at least had heard of it or pretended like he had. But they were really into being part of the show. Then they sent us all these Ghostbusters toys at the end of the shoot. That's one of my top 5 most worn-out VHS tapes."

Seeing that the Duffer Brothers take a lot of influence from Stephen King, it would make sense that they would also be into other movies that dealt with the paranormal like Ghostbusters. Reitman's film is a cult classic, and though the reboot kind of butchered the concept, I'm actually a lot happier that its getting a tribute in something cool like Stranger Things.

The wait is almost over, and we get to see Stranger Things on Netflix this coming Friday, Oct. 27.
