Star Wars Rebels Sequel Still Underway Despite Bad Batch Announcement

For months we've known that an animated sequel to Rebels is in the works, but yesterday we got an announcement for a spinoff called Star Wars: The Bad Batch. While some may think that the Rebels sequel had been postponed, the series is still pretty much underway.

This has been confirmed by Kessel Run Transmissions Host Corey Van Dyke:

We don't know exactly when this Rebels sequel will come, but I have a feeling it's going to release before The Bad Batch, seeing that it's been teased way before we even met Clone Force 99 in the final season of The Clone Wars. We don't have any idea when Lucasfilm plans to announce it, but with Disney+ having a panel at Comic-Con@Home, I think it's possible the announcement could come then.

Though the movies are taking a hiatus, Lucasfilm has really been going all out when it comes to the Star Wars series. Besides the second season of The Mandalorian, we're also getting spinoff shows based on Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi; there's also a rumor going around that Ahsoka is getting her own live-action show—top all that off with two more animated series, the Rebels sequel and The Bad Batch.

We don't know what exactly is coming with the Rebels sequel, but it's likely we'll follow Ahsoka and Sabine as they attempt to search for Ezra in the Unknown Regions. Hopefully, the show can get more creative than that, but until we get an official update, we'll just have to wait and see.

No release has been set for the Rebels sequel, but The Mandalorian is expected to return to Disney+ this October.
