Star Wars: J.J. Abrams was Said to have Pushed for a Finn/Poe Romance, Disney Refused

Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there's been a call to make Finn and Poe a romantic duo, but fans were disappointed when nothing came out of their relationship in The Rise of Skywalker. As it turns out, a romance was in the books all along, but it was Disney who ultimately axed the idea.

According to a new leak on Reddit which details how Disney apparently ‘screwed over' J.J. Abrams in the making of The Rise of Skywalker, a romance between Finn and Poe was in the books, and Abrams himself was pushing for it. As it turns out, Abrams had a lot of creative control taken from him, and the Finn/Poe pairing was just one of the many ‘creative battles' that he lost.

The disappointment of not having Finn and Poe come together is probably most shown by Oscar Isaac who had been adamant about making the two characters gay since The Last Jedi. He had blamed the ‘Disney Overlords' for not letting TROS push through with the romance, and now it's all kind of making sense, with this leak coming out.

If anything, there are hints at the relationship in some way. Finn and Poe are clearly a lot closer now in The Rise of Skywalker, and Poe is kind of written like a jealous girlfriend when it comes to Finn; why else would he be so jealous that Finn has something to confess to Rey when they sank in the sand pit?

We don't know if this call to #ReleaseTheJJCut will ever amount to anything, but personally I'm distraught over this supposed meddling that Disney has put all over the movie.
