Star Wars: How Hondo Ohnaka Ends Up with the Millennium Falcon After TLJ

Disney is set to open their Star Wars theme park Galaxy's Edge sometime this year, and the park will include an attraction that will allow people to ride and ‘pilot' the Millennium Falcon. As it turns out, the ride has a story which puts bandit Hondo Ohnaka in charge, and there's an in-canon explanation of why he has the Falcon after the events of The Last Jedi.

As explained by the book Pirate's Price, Hondo had befriended Han in his younger years, and after the events of The Last Jedi, Chewbacca and Rey left the Falcon to Hondo as it was in need of some repairs. Hondo enthusiastically agreed to keep the Falcon on Batuu, but not without using it for his own gain—that's where the ride comes in.

In Smuggler's Run, participants will be ‘hired' by Hondo Ohnaka to take the Falcon and make some deliveries to some obscure planets. Interestingly enough, your success on the mission will affect your trip in the rest of the park. If you succeed, people in the cantina will say you're some kind of notorious smuggler. If you don't, I imagine some stormtroopers will be wanting to arrest you.

Though I would have personally liked to have Chewbacca or Han on the helm of the Falcon for the ride, I think Lucasfilm just went above and beyond by finding an in-canon way to explain why Hondo has the ship. I think it makes for some great immersion, and a lot of hardcore fans will love the attention to detail.
