Besides the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters, Disney is also preparing for a Star Wars expansion in their parks with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The park is said to take place in the distant planet of Batuu, and president of the Disneyland Resort Josh D’Amaro has shared this new image of the park with the hundreds of employees that will be working it.

So proud to introduce you to the inhabitants of Batuu! I want to thank this amazing team for their incredible dedication and passion. Yesterday’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Cast rally was unforgettable. This photo is one for the ages! #magichasaname #starwarsgalaxysedge #planetofbatuu #maytheforcebewithyou
With Galaxy’s Edge, Disney promises to bring a whole new level of immersion to the Star Wars experience. Guests will be able to walk around as if they were on another planet, and employees would be dressed up either as alien inhabitants or as stormtroopers from the First Order. There are going to be some parked starships around the area, and you can spot TIE Fighters and X-Wings in different locations.
What’s also cool is the rides will have an effect on your experience. If you successfully navigate the Smuggler’s Run on the Millennium Falcon, there will either be a bounty on your head for being a famous smuggler, or stormtroopers will try to arrest you for being so clumsy.
Hopefully, with this, Disney will manage to keep the Star Wars brand alive, seeing as we won’t be getting any new films until 2022. Hopefully, we’ll get some material in Disney’s streaming service between all that time.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens Aug. 9 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and May 31 in Disneyland Resort California.
