Star Wars Episode IX: Dominic Monaghan was Rumored for a Jedi Role Back in TFA

News had just recently dropped that Lord of the Rings' Dominic Monaghan had joined the cast of Star Wars Episode IX, but no one knows who he's playing as of now. What's interesting is, Monaghan had been rumored for a role way back when The Force Awakens was still under production.

According to Star Wars News Net, Monaghan was heavily rumored to be cast as a Jedi character back in 2014. The report was coming from multiple sources, but as well all know, Monaghan was nowhere to be seen in the final product.

So what can we pick up from this? It's possible that Monaghan was cast as a character relating to the Jedi, but it was scrapped early on. With Abrams back at the helm however, he may have found a way to reintroduce the character with the latest film.

Of course, it's entirely possible that Monaghan is playing a character of an entirely different nature. At best, I think he's going to be someone who works for the Resistance; or maybe he's another none-joiner like Benicio del Toro's DJ.

I absolutely loved Monaghan in LOTR, and I'm all giddy that we'll get to see him in something like Star Wars. Maybe we'll get a reveal before the year ends.

Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20, 2019.
