Star Wars Director J.J. Abrams to Produce New Constantine Movie

It's been a while since the movie came out, but DC's John Constantine has managed to stay relevant with animated films and live-action series. What's interesting is that the Hellblazer may be coming back to the big screen.

According to The Direct, a new live-action Constantine movie is in the works, and WB has teamed up with Abrams' Bad Robot to produce the film. It's still unknown if this will be a new property or a sequel to the 2005 movie, but there is definitely some excitement when it comes to Keanu Reeves reprising the role.

Here's some timely art from BossLogic:

While I was a fan of Reeves' portrayal of Constantine, I've come to understand that his version of the character is very far from the one we have in the comics. Constantine in Hellblazer was notoriously English, had blonde hair, and dressed in his brown trench coat. Reeves' version was clad in black, didn't have any accent, and had some cool arm tattoos. If they did have something in common though, both were heavy smokers and dealt with the supernatural.

Personally, I'm hoping for a more accurate representation of Hellblazer, but if they find a way to incorporate Reeves' version into the new property, I'd seriously be fine with it. If anything, Michael Keaton's return as Batman definitely opens up the door for multiverses, and Reeves can exist alongside a more faithful version of John Constantine.

A Constantine film hasn't been officially announced, but we're expecting it on DC's FanDome event coming this August.
