Star Wars: ‘Adventure’ is the Core Focus of The Mandalorian

Fans of Star Wars have been used to animated series and comics, but Jon Favreau will be giving us the first-ever live-action Star Wars series with Disney+'s The Mandalorian. With the film focusing on the seedy underbelly of the franchise, Favreau takes time to emphasize what is at the core of the show.

When asked by MTV News about how dark the series will be, Favreau answers, "We're going for adventure, first of all, I think at its core, George Lucas was inspired by adventure serials. From the first frame of that film when you said that it was a continuation of a story, it felt like an old theatrical Saturday serial. "

Favreau also goes on to talk about the other core influences of Star Wars namely Samurai films and Westerns. We kind of see a lot of those elements in the trailer already, but it would be great to see how everything comes together in the show.

With the main films focusing on Force users and the balance between the Dark Side and the Light, I have always found myself preferring the more gritty side of things, specifically the pilots and the bounty hunters. You can imagine my sheer disappointment that Solo underperformed in the box office, and until now we still don't have a confirmation of a follow-up.

A lot is riding on the success of The Mandalorian. Besides it being of the main hooks for Disney+, it will also set the bar for other live-action Star Wars (and even Marvel) series. Fingers crossed this turns out well for Lucasfilm because they'll need something to keep Star Wars fans interested during the hiatus that will follow after The Rise of Skywalker.

The Mandalorian is set to launch alongside Disney+ on Nov. 12.
