Star Trek: Discovery’s Sonequa Martin-Green Cast in Space Jam 2

Sonequa Martin-Green is probably best known for playing protagonist Michael Burnham in Star Trek: Discovery, but now it looks like we're going to be seeing her in the big screen soon.

According to Variety, Martin-Green has been cast in the upcoming Space Jam reboot starring LeBron James. We don't really have many details on her character, but it's said that she would be playing James' wife in the movie. Hopefully, they get her to do more things in the film than just worry about where her husband has gone.

Besides Martin-Green, the movie also features O'Shea Jackson Jr. (a.k.a. Ice Cube's son). There have also been other NBA players cast to play other NBA stars. As of now, the cast lists Jared Sullinger as Charles Barkley and Tacko Fall as Shawn Bradley.

We don't have any specifics on the story of the Space Jam sequel, but we do know that it's being directed by Terence Nance (HBO's Random Acts of Flyness) with Black Panther's Ryan Coogler attached as a producer. Just like the first Space Jam, I think we should also expect more appearances from other famous athletes—maybe even a cameo appearance from the original SJ star Michael Jordan.

Space Jam was such a hit for Looney Tunes back when it came out, but the franchise was brought to a halt after the release of Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Hopefully, if Space Jam 2 works out, we could be looking at more LT films in the future; maybe they can even move forward with that Tony Hawk movie titled Skate Jam.

Space Jam 2 is set to come out July 16, 2021.
