Shameik Moore is now best known for playing Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but did you know that he was almost in Solo: A Star Wars Story? As it turns out, Moore had auditioned to play Lando Calrissian before Donald Glover was cast.

Talking to the Hollywood Reporter, Moore explained:

“I don't really care about who I'm auditioning for. I don't know much about who the directors are beforehand. I go in there to execute my job, and if you want me, I'm here to execute. I don't think I knew that these were the same dudes [Phil Lord and Chris Miller] that were interested in me for Spider-Man when I went in for Star Wars. I do remember meeting them, and going in there and doing it, but I also remember feeling like I wasn't going to have that part.”

It’s interesting that Moore would audition for a part that ultimately went to Donald Glover because Glover had voiced Miles Morales before in the animated Ultimate Spider-Man series. Glover even plays Miles’ uncle Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming and has a small cameo in Into the Spider-Verse.

When it comes to Star Wars though, it looks like Moore is only more interested in the brand, saying that he’s more of a fan of Harry Potter or The Matrix. He says, "I would love to be a part of a huge Star Wars movie simply because of how big Star Wars is as a brand."

Either way, Moore may have dodged a bullet not landing the part of Lando Calrissian. Solo had underperformed when it hits theaters last year, and Spider-Man soared to the top of the box office. With a sequel now in the works for Spider-Verse, I guess we’re going to be hearing a lot more from Moore in the future.

No release date has been set for the Into the Spider-Verse sequel.
