Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Clip Confirms Just How Miserable Old Peter Parker Is

[WARNING: SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE]

Though Miles Morales is at the center of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, we're getting a unique kind of Peter Parker as well—albeit coming from an alternate reality. As it turns out, this middle-aged Peter is actually quite miserable, and a new clip of him recapping his life gives us the sad details.

As it turns out, though Spider-Man is well-loved in his universe, his life as Peter Parker has been nothing but down in the dumps. For one, we know that he had to bury Aunt May, plus he's divorced from his wife MJ.

We know that MJ and May still exist in Miles' world, and maybe that will have some kind of effect on this alternate universe Peter. At least we have some kind of explanation for why Peter is kind of ‘mean' in this iteration of the character. Some have found issue with his ‘humble-bragging' whenever he talks with Miles, and maybe it's this depression that could be the cause of it all.

Either way, I'm happy to see a veteran Spider-Man make his way onscreen. With us usually just seeing Peter's origin in the films, I'd like to see what decades of hero work can do to someone like Peter who isn't rich like Tony Stark or immortal like Thor.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters Dec. 14.
