Spider-Man Far From Home is Officially the Highest Grossing Sony Film of All Time

There was a lot of pressure for Spider-Man: Far From Home to earn a billion at the box office, because it was said that Sony would take complete control over the character again if it didn't earn that much. The good news is, it did pass a billion, and it has now become the highest-grossing Sony film of all time.

As per Forbes, Spider-Man: Far From Home has earned a worldwide gross of $1.109 billion, beating out the last highest-grossing film, Skyfall ($1.108 billion). It's said that the movie has China to thank for its success, seeing as the audiences there have "a newfound obsession with solo superhero movies on par with North America's love affair with DC and Marvel movies."

While this is certainly great news for Sony, some MCU fans think this will indeed solidify Marvel's grip on Tom Holland's Spider-Man character. We don't have any news for Sony's spinoffs like Venom and Morbius, but some fans were hoping that Sony would just drop the "SUMC" altogether and have Marvel take the reins moving forward.

Personally, I think the only good idea from Sony's Spider-Man spinoffs was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It was a really fresh and original take on the story, and it didn't feel forced or lacking unlike the Venom solo film with Tom Hardy. Then again, if Hardy's Venom were to crossover with Peter, I think they're going to have to use a multi-verse explanation. Of course, I'm also willing to have the MCU just completely reboot the character with Venom actually having an origin connected to Spider-Man.

For now, you can still catch Spider-Man: Far From Home in theaters.
