Spider-Man: Far From Home Director on Who Really ‘Wins’ at the End of the Film

[SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME]

If you've read the comics or followed Spider-Man outside of any movie, you'll know that Mysterio is a villain, and everyone saw it coming from a mile away in Spider-Man: Far From Home. What's interesting is, though Quentin Beck dies by the end of the movie, he still kind of ‘wins' when it comes to his clash with Peter.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, director Jon Watts explained:

"You think about the story, and thematically, we're dealing with these ideas of what's real and what's fake. Peter's lying to himself about how he feels about Tony and the loss that he's experiencing and denying. MJ's lying about knowing that Peter's Spider-Man and that she likes him. There's a lot of deception in the movie. So, I wanted to finally confront Peter with his biggest lie, which is that he keeps his identity a secret, and in a way, have Mysterio win. Everything that Mysterio is saying throughout the movie suddenly all comes to a hilt at this final climactic moment."

As it stands, Peter has never really been outed as Spider-Man in a mass scale before, and nobody knows what to expect when it comes to the sequel. Some guess that the solution will have something to do with a Skrull pretending to be Peter, but then again, Peter is the only hero in the MCU with a secret identity. The identities of everyone else from Iron Man to Captain America are all pretty much public knowledge. I guess the only difference is that Peter doesn't really have the means to protect everyone he loves from villains who might want to hurt them.

Then again, he already has EDITH from Tony Stark.
