Sony's Amy Pascal Hopeful to Keep Spider-Man in the MCU

Fans rejoiced back in 2016 when Sony finally allowed Spider-Man to exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While some fans are happy that Peter Parker is back, they do have a lingering fear that it's only a matter of time before Sony takes him away to star in their SUMC franchise. Interestingly enough, it seems that Sony is also eager to keep the deal between the two studios.

Talking to Vanity Fair, producer Amy Pascal talks about the eventual expiry of Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man deal to which she says, "I think about crying. I can only hope for a future where things work out."

Undoubtedly, Sony's deal with Marvel has seen the best out of their Spider-Man franchise. A lot of people love this new take on Peter Parker, and he's very true to the character in the comics. Not to mention Marvel has also found a way to keep multiple villains in the film without oversaturating the story.

Pascal continues:

"I've known Kevin since he was Avi's very, very quiet assistant, who for many years sat in that room listening to us and being so much smarter than any of us without any of us realizing. I will say that working with Marvel has been one of the highlights of my professional career."

Though Sony has been getting a lot of praise with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it's the Venom film that is getting fans worried about them keeping the creative reins on the Spider-Man franchise. Though the movie was a huge success, it was still a critical bomb, and admittedly a step back for modern superhero films. Not to mention no one is looking forward to their announced spinoffs like Kraven the Hunter and Morbius the Living Vampire.

Hopefully, when Sony and Marvel expand their deal, they'll let Marvel handle more of the creatives from now on when it comes to live-action. As for the animation department, I'm already excited what else they have in store.

For now, catch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse already in theaters.
