Insomniac Games has found a huge hit with their PS4 exclusive Spider-Man, and it looks like Sony wants to keep their partnership with the developers for the long haul.
Playstation has just announced that Insomniac will be joining PS Worldwide Studios. Here’s the official post:
Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden (via Polygon) had this to say about the acquisition:
“Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in-class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled… We have enjoyed a strong collaborative partnership with the studio for many years, and are thrilled to officially welcome them to the Worldwide Studios family. The addition of Insomniac Games to SIE WWS reiterates our commitment to developing world-class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform.”
On to the Insomniac side of things, founder and CEO Ted Price said:
“Joining the WWS family gives Insomniac even greater opportunities to achieve our studio vision of making positive and lasting impressions on people’s lives… We’ve enjoyed a special relationship with PlayStation practically since our inception. Our partnership amplifies our potential, and Marvel’s Spider-Man was a testament to this. We’re excited to take the next step in our growth alongside our longtime WWS partners. Most of all, we look forward to delivering fresh, new experiences for our fans.”
Besides Spider-Man, Insomniac is also responsible for the Ratchet and Clank franchise, Spyro the Dragon, and Resistance. Other non-Playstation exclusives they have under their belt include Song of the Deep and the Oculus Rift’s Edge of Nowhere and Stormland.
There wasn’t any announcement on what games they have in store for the future, but I bet we can expect another Spider-Man title from them. Here I am crossing my fingers that they can come up with a video game tie in with the MCU at some point.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is currently available for the PS4.
