Sony Allegedly Interested in Solo Spider-Man Spinoffs Like DC’s Joker

Though multi-verses were a new concept that was introduced to comic book films with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it looks like that will be the direction that Marvel and DC want to pursue moving forward. What's interesting is, it looks like Sony wants to work on multi-verse spinoffs not unlike DC's hit, Joker.

This comes from insider Daniel Richtman (via DR Movie News):

Take note that none of this is official yet, and it's possible that Sony could change their mind moving forward. Then again, with Sony so desperate to build their SUMC, it would make more sense to bank on multiple Spider-Men than just have spinoffs with villains like Kraven the Hunter or Black Cat.

Though Sony has denied that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be making a return, the reaction from fans about a possible Spider-Man multi-verse has been nothing but positive. Should they bring back the stars, they are sure to make a lot of money off of spinoffs, as Fox did with Logan and Deadpool.

With both Maguire and Garfield's franchises not being able to properly conclude their respective stories, it would be fantastic if Sony actually tried to give us a proper ending for both versions of the character. While it would be great to see it in a Spider-Man team-up film, I guess it also wouldn't be bad if they got to finish their stories in their own standalone movies.

For now, fans are just waiting for more information on Spider-Man 3. While we don't have any official information yet, casting news has led a lot to believe that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will be dealing with a multi-verse. After the cop-out by Mysterio in Far from Home, it would be interesting to see it actually unfold in canon.

Spider-Man 3 is set to come out on Dec. 17, 2021.
