Sony Allegedly Eyeing Alicia Vikander for Spider-Woman

A rumor had recently come out that Sony was producing a Spider-Woman movie for 2021, and though we have no official confirmation, everyone is buzzing about it online. What's interesting is, Sony may have someone in mind to play Jessica Drew.

As per The Illuminerdi, Sony is looking at Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander to star as Spider-Woman. We have no official confirmation yet, but Vikander seems to be a nice foil when it comes to Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

While Spider-Woman's origins can get a bit messy in the comics, one prominent character trait for her is that she was a brainwashed ex-HYDRA agent. We don't know if Sony will be able to use the HYDRA name for their Spider-Verse, but if they can share Spider-Man with the MCU, then hopefully Marvel returns the favor.

With Spider-Woman basically having all the powers of Spider-Man, I'm hopeful that Sony finds a way to make her different from Peter Parker, like what they did with Miles Morales in Into the Spider-Verse. Her character is completely different, and based on the comics, she also ages in a decelerated rate; so maybe that can be one big difference between her and Peter, in a sense that Jessica Drew is an older woman trapped in a young body.

We have no official confirmation for a Spider-Woman movie yet, so we should take this news with a grain of salt. The next Spider-Verse film, Morbius, comes out on July 31.
