Solo A Star Wars Story: It was George Lucas’ Idea to have a Droids’ Rights Activist

While there is a lot to love about Solo: A Star Wars Story, L3-37 has come out to be one of the more controversial characters. For one, a lot of people seem to think that she stemmed from the "SJW" movement that a lot of fans have been claiming is ‘ruining' Star Wars. As it turns out, her activism was actually something George Lucas thought up way back in the early 2000s.

This was revealed in the Target exclusive art book for Solo (via Matthew Vlossak):

While some may hate on L3, I actually loved every bit of her in the movie; though I do wish that we got to see more of her. She has a personality that we've never seen in a droid before, and I think it's hilarious that it's implied that she has sex with Lando.

If I do have another nitpick, I kind of wish that she had even just a small connection with Han. If it was implied that L3 actually liked Han, then it would mean a lot more when he ends up owning the Falcon by the end of the movie. Otherwise, L3 would be part of a ship that belonged to a complete stranger to her.

… but let's not think about that.

Though Solo: A Star Wars Story did underperform in the box office, it could be said that it was more on Disney's fault rather than the quality of the movie as a whole. Marketing was watered down as to not distract from Avengers: Infinity War, and the movie was forced to come out so close to The Last Jedi. Otherwise, critical reception has been great, and a lot of fans are hoping for a sequel.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is now available on digital and Blu-Ray.
