Shazam! Will Be The Last Movie from the Original DCEU Slate

Back when Batman v Superman was announced, the DCEU had an original slate of movies set to come out from 2016 all the way up to 2020. What WB didn't account for, though, was the backlash for films like Suicide Squad and Justice League, prompting them to cancel some announced films. With Shazam! set to come out next month, it's come to the realization that it will be the last movie in the originally planned DCEU slate.

As pointed out by ScreenRant, this was the original lineup back when people were still positive about the future of the DCEU:

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice - March 25th, 2016

Suicide Squad - August 5th, 2016

Wonder Woman - June 23rd, 2017

Justice League - November 17th, 2017

The Flash - March 23rd, 2018

Aquaman - July 27th, 2018

Shazam - April 5th, 2019

Justice League 2 - June 14th, 2019

Cyborg - April 3rd, 2020

Green Lantern Corps - June 19th, 2020

If you follow the news, you'll know that The Flash has seen multiple delays, and Justice League 2 is way off in the backburner. News has it that the Cyborg movie is also down on priority, add to that the Green Lantern movie.

On the bright side, the DCEU slate isn't empty even if the original films aren't coming anymore. Next year will have Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 with Batman and Suicide Squad 2 set for a 2021 release. There's also news going around that WB is aiming to start work on the Flash movie later this year as long as they find a script that star Ezra Miller is happy with.

For now, I guess Shazam! remains a remnant of the DCEU that could have been. Heck, it even has references to past films like Justice League which WB is clearly trying to sweep under the rug. So far reviews have been good, and a lot of positivity is going the way of Earth's Mightiest Mortal.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5.
