Shazam! 2 to Start Shooting in July

A lot of people loved Shazam! when it came out last year, and the film is set to have a sequel come 2022. What's interesting is, the movie is set to start shooting very soon, and we may have a tentative production start date.

According to The GWW, the Shazam! a sequel is currently eyeing a start this July. We don't have any official confirmation yet, so for now, we should just take this as a rumor. Then again, it does seem like a very plausible date.

David F. Sandberg is set to come back to the helm, with main stars Zachary Levi (Captain Marvel) and Asher Angel (Billy Batson) set to return.

With Captain Marvel's nemesis, Black Adam set to get his movie in December of 2021, it's going to be interesting to see how the two films will be connected to each other. I'm sure that Adam could have a reference to an incoming clash with Billy, but I don't expect it to happen until a third Shazam! movie. For now, it looks like the main adversary is going to be the talking caterpillar Mister Mind.

If I have one gripe about Shazam! it's that they never really have given Billy's hero alter-ego a name. I hope that they finally call Levi Captain Marvel because it would make no sense for people to call him "Shazam." I mean, the comics don't seem to mind the confusion, so it would be great if they do the same thing with the films. Besides, I think the joke about "Captain Sparklefingers" has already gotten old.

The sequel to Shazam! is set to come out on April 1, 2022.
