George R.R. Martin Said to have Finished the Final GOT Books, but They Will Come Out After the Show Ends

With the final season of Game of Thrones ultimately disappointing fans, a lot more people are now looking to the books to give them the ending they deserved. While some people have given up on George R.R. Martin finishing his books, rumor has it that he's actually done, but he has a deal that prevents him from publishing the books.

According to Barristan Selmy actor Ian McElhinney, Martin has already written the last two books, but he has to wait for the show to end before they can come out. McElhinney says, "What I've been told is ... George has already written books 6 and 7 … But he struck an agreement with [the showrunners] that he would not publish the final two books until the series has completed."

Of course, this is just a rumor for now, but it would make sense, seeing that Martin has supposedly been taking his sweet time when it comes to the release of the Winds of Winter. If anything, some people are actually convinced that he's using the show as a ‘beta test' to see what fans hate about it, and he'll supposedly be using the last books to ‘fix' the story between Daenerys and Jon.

Personally, I'm also not pleased with the way the show has been pushing forward, but I'm thinking maybe it will all make sense once we watch Seasons 7 and 8 as one season. I guess a lot of people are just peeved that they had to wait so long for Game of Thrones 8 only for the plot to move rapidly in order to give us quick resolutions to several character arcs.

Catch the final season of Game of Thrones on HBO this Sunday night. No release has been set for The Winds of Winter.
